Zombie Chronicles: The Infected (2010)
Let me preface this review by saying the following: Zombie Chronicles: The Infected is not a horror film, as it does not fulfill the requirements for a horror film, mainly that it is not even remotely scary. Also, it is not a well made film. Hell, it isn’t even a decently made film. When you spend major parts of a film literally in the dark as to what’s happening on the screen, because you literally can’t see what’s happening on the screen, that’s a sign that your film isn’t working.
Now, I don’t expect Citizen Kane when I watch a zombie film, but I don’t expect The Room rolled into Birdemic: Shock and Terror either!
Ok, I’ve established that Zombie Chronicles: The Infected fails on the horror side of filmmaking and the filmmaking side of filmmaking. Here’s the kicker, I watched writer / director Marvin Suarez’s 26 minute film 3 times in a row. Why would I do that to myself? Why? No one would watch Manos: The Hands of Fate three times in a row. None of you would do that, would you?
Then again, Manos didn’t have what Zombie Chronicles: The Infected had:
Actor, Lavrenti Lopes.
So what if the story, what little story there was (zombies attacking NYC and how two paramedics, holed up in an apartment, deal with them), didn’t make a lick of sense or that I couldn’t even see most of the film….Mr. Lopes performance makes up for it all. As Josh, one of the paramedics, Mr. Lopes gives a performance of such humorous ineptitude….I must tell you, I couldn’t turn away from it.
Three times, people.
I gave close to 90 minutes of my life to this film, all to watch one of the most ridiculously bad performances that I have seen in cinema for a long time.
Totally worth it.
Then again, I’m a bit of a masochist.
