Yoga Hosers Review

Now if anyone knows me, knows I am a very big fan of Kevin Smith. Clerks has had a huge impact on me in my love of independent movies. I have followed Kevin Smith through his whole career when it came to movies, stand up, comic book writing and podcasts. After Cop Out which was panned by critics, well all his movies were hated by critics, he decided to go a whole different way with his next project.
His next project was Red State, that was a totally different film then I was used to. Red State proved Kevin was more than just comedies and fart jokes in my opinion, I really enjoyed that film and loved to see a different side to Kevin.
Then he directed Tusk, oh man was that a twisted bizarre film. It’s pretty much about a podcaster guy that goes to Canada, stays and interviews a local hermit & gets drugged. He then gets turned into a human walrus hybrid; I really can’t make this stuff up, this is definitely a real movie.
So after that movie came out, Kevin Smith informs the public that Tusk is part 1 of the True North Trilogy. So with that being said this brings me to the 2nd part of this trilogy.
Yoga hosers! Yoga Hosers is really a different tone shift and feel than Tusk. This movie was more punk rock and female empowerment, and Kevin Smiths way of showing it. We bring back a lot of the cast from Tusk which includes Lily Rose Depp & Harley Quinn Smith as “The Colleens”, Johnny Depp is back as Guy Lapointe, We Have Justin Long, Hayley Joel Osment & Ralph Garman as all-new characters. We have newly introduced characters this time around in Jason Mewes as a rogue cop & Kevin Smith himself playing the bratzis. We also have a Kevin Conroy & Stan Lee cameo.
This movie takes place not long after Tusk and the Colleens are famous for leading the police to where the human walrus was located. They got overnight stardom but its all just “basic” to them. They run their convenience store and find ways to close up to make their life more fun. Clerks anyone? They are obsessed with yoga with this weird yoga instructor named Yogi Bayer, while trying to get through high school and have fun. As this is going on there is a true evil from Canada’s past coming back to the fore front.
One day in their history class, their teacher tells them about the legend of Canadian Nazi leader, Adrien Arcand and his follower Andronicus Arcane. How their plan was to rid all of Canada of the Canadian jew. Again I cant make this stuff up, it was foretold that Arcand was executed for his crimes but Arcane was never found. One night the Colleens partied with two teenage boys who were going to kill them in a satanic ritual when an evil force known as Bratzi’s (little nazi’s in the form of bratwurst) come and attack the party. The Bratzi’s end up killing the 2 boys and makes the Colleen’s look like the killers. They have to do everything within their girl-power to prove their innocence, with Guy Lapointe helping them, they need to save the world.

I am not gonna give away the end, but it’s a crazy scene that is awesome. As a Kevin Smith fan, I really enjoyed this movie a lot. It was completely different from Tusk but also feels like it’s the next chapter in this trilogy. Like I said it feels like a punk rock female girl-power movie but that doesn’t mean guys can’t enjoy this movie as well. If you’re a fan of the podcast from Kevin Smith & Ralph Garman called Hollywood Babble-on, then you’re going to get a lot of the inside jokes that most other fans won’t. The ending with Ralph Garman is one of the funniest scenes I ever seen, If you watch babble-on then you will laugh as well. I am just glad to see Kevin Smith having fun with his art again because for a while the critics were getting to him and he was miserable. The Stan Lee cameo was downright fantastic and I laughed my head off, I never thought I would see him in a Kevin Smith movie. I pretty much said the same thing about Johnny Depp. The Kevin Conroy cameo was awesome too and if you followed Batman: The Animated Series you will see what I mean.

The things I loved about this movie was just the fun of it all. You can see the whole cast having fun and enjoying themselves. Movies sometimes come off too serious and you must have fun every now and then. I also loved Kevin Smith doing what he wants now and making the movies he wants to make. If you’re a fan and you like it, awesome, if you’re not a fan and you hate this movie like most critics do then your missing out.
Another thing I loved about this movie is the soundtrack to the film, it has sooo many great songs for young and up-and-coming teen girls who Kevin has said he made this movie for. The Colleen’s cover of ‘Babe by Styx’ is down right on point and amazing. Their voices show that they can actually sing and maybe have another career choice if acting doesn’t work out. I don’t really have any negatives to say about this because I just had a lot fun with this movie. I just wonder what pot he smokes to come up with this and Tusk, I definitely want what he is smoking on.
You have to have a very twisted, creative mind to come up with these ideas. Either way I love what he comes up with. Now this is Part 2 and we still have Part 3 coming. Part 3 is the one I am most looking forward to and its called ‘Moose Jaws’, Jaws with a moose. For the 3rd time I have said this, I can’t make this stuff up.
With that being said I give this movie 3 and 1/2 skulls out of 5 for the pure fun i had with this film.
