Based on a true story about his great grandfather’s experience as a prisoner of war, the UK’s youngest filmmaker, Elliott Hasler, tells an epic tale of survival. Pieced together from his family’s aural history and kept alive over generations, comes the tale of Charlie, an ordinary man overcoming extraordinary circumstances. Completed when Hasler was just sixteen years old, this impressive debut was shot across five countries and spent three years in production.

WHO IS ELLIOTT HASLER?
Elliott Hasler is the UK’s youngest director, having completed his first feature, ‘Charlie’s Letters (WWII: THE LONG ROAD HOME’), aged 16 after a three year production. ‘Charlie’s Letters,’ screened at the Edinburgh Festival and was shown on the Brighton Big Screen alongside ‘T2 Trainspotting’ and ‘La La Land,’ received critical acclaim and was lauded by critics as a “miracle,” with Culture Trip’s Graham Fuller citing Hasler as “the next Spielberg”.
His latest film is the short, ‘To Hunt a Tiger,’ which stars John Locked (Darkest Hour, The Favourite) and was shot in Sri Lanka, following in the footsteps of David Lean’s ‘The Bridge on the River Kwai’.
Hasler is currently in development on his second feature, ‘Vindication Swim,’ about the first English woman to swim the Channel.
