The Top 5 Best Horror Movies Of 2016

Lights Out - Top 5 Horrors of 2016

5. Lights Out

This movie was based on the short film that director David Sandberg did which you can WATCH HERE. The short film creeped me out big time. When the full length feature came out, to say I was excited is an understatement. This film is very creepy and I really enjoyed this. Definitely worth taking a look at. It’s about an entity haunting a poor female every time she is in darkness, She has to find out why she is being haunted and uncovering the mystery.

The Conjuring 2 - Top 5 Horror movies of 2016

4. The Conjuring 2

This is a sequel to James Wan’s (Insidious, Saw, Dead Silence) original The Conjuring. It’s based on another case from the famous Ed & Lorraine Warren. The are infamous paranormal investigators that are known around the world. They have done many known cases including Amityville – The Snedeker family of Southington, Connecticut. This film deals with Amityville a little, but most of the movie deals with the famous case known only as ‘The Enfield Poltergeist’. This is one of the most famous cases the Warrens have done. This movie is beyond creepy and scared the crap out of me, James Wan proves once again why he is a great horror director. I enjoyed this film a lot and it has a lot of re-watch ability. If you want to be scared, cuddle up to a love one and throw this on and enjoy.

Clown - Top 5 horror movies of 2016

3. Clown

Clown, directed by Jon Watts, is a killer clown movie done right. This proves clowns can still be terrifying and creepy. It’s is about a father, Kent McCoy, who is a real estate agent, he’s late to his son’s birthday party and his wife, Meg, calls to tell him to hurry home and the birthday clown cancelled at the last minute. Kent finds an old clown costume in a basement of a house he is trying to sell, well there is more to that suit than meets the eye. This movie has some crazy, gory death scenes, and amazing script and is shot beautifully. This is one horror that surprised me big time, it was never hyped up or talked about. I only found out about this through a friend. Once this was over I was blown away and really impressed. It’s no shocker now because how good this is because Jon Watts is now the director for the new Spider-Man movie for Marvel Studios. You want a great killer clown movie done right? Grab some popcorn and a blanket and check out this awesome horror gem.

Hush - Top 5 horror movies of 2016

2. Hush

This movie was a blind pick on Netflix with the wifey. She said it sounded good and I said “Why not”. Netflix has gems on there sometimes, but most of the time they only have turds. This movie surprised me big time and had a lot of fun with it. I was hesitant at first because it was directed by Mike Flanagan. He directed another horror movie called Oculus, which I thought sucked real bad and didn’t enjoy that at all. I said why not and man… This movie is amazing. Hands down, the story, dialog, tone, all hit the right sweet spots for me. This movie is about  Madison Young, a very young deaf writer that lost her hearing due to a bad case of bacterial meningitis as a kid. She lives in an isolated cabin in the woods surviving off her book sales and is in the middle of writing a new book. Her friend and neighbor Sarah comes running to the back door banging on it. She is running from a masked man who kills her brutally. Of course Madison doesn’t hear her friend screaming for help and the masked man notices she is deaf. What then comes about is a game of cat and mouse with a bloody finish. This movie is awesome and everyone should check out this film. You wont be disappointed!

The Witch - Top 5 horror movies of 2016

1. The Witch

This movie is my #1 best movie of 2016 and i will tell you why! I am a history buff and a horror fan, when you add thoe together perfectly you got a great film. Directed by first time director Robert Eggers, he gives us an authentic horror movie about a puritan family that gets banished from their community. This family doesn’t agree with the church and decides that they would rather leave the community. Father William moves his family that includes daughters Thomasin & Mercy, Sons Caleb, Jonas & Samuel, and wife Katherine out to the woods. Once their the creepiness kicks in and bad stuff starts to happen. William & Katherine’s son Samuel disappears after he is left in Thomasin’s care. The crops go bad and it’s blamed on the “witch of the wood”. Now I don’t wanna give too much away because this movie is fantastic. They create artistic filmmaking with creepy atmospheric terror and dread to make you hold your family close as we watch this family get torn apart & their faith get tested. We see how far the Witch will go to get what she wants. This movie isn’t for everyone and it’s a slow burn. The ending is one of the best finales I have seen in a while. You get a twist-ending about who really pulls the strings. This movie should be seen by everyone at least once. I love it and watch it often when I wanna get creeped out.

This is my yearly Top 5 Best Horror Flicks of the Year in my opinion, stay tuned for my Top 5 Most Disappointing Horror Flicks of the Year coming up…
