The Mummy Getting Ready to Rise From The Tomb
Universal seem pretty determined with their Monster Universe despite the huge flop that was ‘Dracula Untold’.
The studio must be hoping that the star power of Tom Cruise can help ‘The Mummy’ win back fans for their shared universe. Now it has been confirmed that Jake Johnson will be helping Cruise battle the supernatural.
Johnson was recently seen in Jurassic World as comic relief and it wouldn’t be too surprising to find him playing a similar role in The Mummy. Tom Cruise’s character is part of a Special Forces organisation and the movies other star, Annabelle Wallis, is playing a scientist.
The last universe involving ‘The Mummy’ was hugely successful. Starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz the movie went on to spawn two sequels and a spin-off franchise ‘The Scorpion King’ which had it’s own movie as well as three direct-to-video sequels/prequel.
A lot is riding on the movie as if this flops at the box office then we could say goodbye to any further Monster adventures in this shared universe and also the Johnny Depp starring ‘Invisible Man’.
The release date for The Mummy is set for June 9, 2017 so we still have a while to wait yet.
