The Fruit Fix – A Short Drama Film
The Fruit Fix is a short film highlighting a possible treatment for social anxiety and mental health. The film tells the story of a person in treatment, their setbacks and victories. The idea is based on a CBT behavioral experiment, that desensitizes a sufferer by asking them to attempt to embarrass themselves in public. I’ve seen this treatment in action, it’s a positive and empowering process and I’ve been keen to find a way to represent it on film.
Hope (Jamie Lee O’Donnell), has a life changing piano audition coming up, nerve wracking at the best of times. Unfortunately, as a sufferer of social anxiety, it’s going to take extraordinary courage to seek the help needed to pursue her dream.
This story is fiction, but the “Banana Walk” is a genuine treatment.
Written and directed by Philip Connolly and filmed on location in Eastbourne, East Sussex, UK. Philip has directed several short films including the Sitcom Pilot “Agent X” with Chizzy Akudolu (Holby City) and Jack Klaff (Star Wars). Philip has also served as a writer on the multi-award winning Radio Drama “Blood Culture” and BBC Worldwide documentary series “Deadly Disasters”.
Philip said “We made the film because mental health isn’t often represented on film in realistic and nuanced way. The film should be helpful for people that suffer from social anxiety, by highlighting a specific treatment. To push the subject into the public sphere to both contribute to ongoing debate about mental health and possibly help people.”
