The Burning Blue Making Waves on The Festival Circuit
Award winning screenwriter and director Ablay Nurmanbetov has been making a lot of noise with his new short, The Burning Blue. It has received awards from national and international film festivals. It’s currently finishing up the festival circuit and will be jumping straight onto streaming platforms in April.
Originally from Kazakhstan and now based in Los Angeles, Ablay Nurmanbetov told us “The story was conceived after moving to the United States from Kazakhstan and experiencing firsthand the struggles that immigrants face.”
Nurmanbetov has teamed with talented producer Anila Nugmanova, who has worked on different national and international films that received prestigious awards. The Burning Blue brought Anila the best producer award at Uruvatti International Film Festival as well as best international film and Denis Zemtsov, director of cinematography winning the best cinematography award. “The Burning Blue” also received best short film award at Europe Film Festival U.K.
On the location of the shoot Ablay Nurmanbetov said “The location for the shoot, dry El Mirage Lake, is a beautiful place. It’s a lot more than just the backdrop for a tragic love story, it becomes a character in the film. That story resonated with every cast and crew member. While filming under the open sun the whole crew and cast experienced the heat of the desert. It was extremely hot 45-47 by Celsius. Despite it, the group of enthusiastic and talented filmmakers pushed themselves to the maximum to make this film.”
