Superman Trailer
With Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice just around the corner it was only fitting that we revisited this classic.
Released in 1978 and directed by Richard Donner, Superman was the most expensive movie ever made at the time with a budget of $55 million. Starring Christopher Reeve, Gene Hackman, Marlon Brando and Margot Kidder the movie was a financial success making over $300 million at the Box Office in its original release. The special effects used at the time were ground-breaking and earned the movie a Special Achievement Academy Award for Visual Effects.
The movie tells the origin story of Superman. Beginning in his home planet of Krypton, Kal-El’s father, Jor-El, believes the planet is dying and decides to send his son to Earth to save him. Once on Earth Kal-El is adopted by Johnathon and Martha Kent who find Kal-El and raise him as their own, renaming him Clark Kent. Clark grows up and discovers he has special powers but his adopted parents help him to hide these fearing he would be taken away. Once Clark is fully grown he moves to Metropolis and becomes a reporter for the Daily Planet. In order to be able to help people Clark hides his identity and becomes Superman, using his superior powers to fight for truth, justice and the American way. Unfortunately the evil Lex Luthor has plans of his own to destroy Superman and take over the world.
Superman was followed by three sequels and the spin-off, Supergirl. However still believe this one is the best!
