Star Trek Beyond Movie Review To Make You Laugh
Is your inner Trekkie calling out to you to boldly go and see Star Trek Beyond?
Check out our review of Star Trek Beyond before you go see it this weekend. There are two opposing viewpoints concerning this installment of the rebooted Star Trekfranchise. If you are a die hard Star Trek fan, you may have some issues with it being too action packed and not sticking with the core ideas and stories that have created Star Trek’s own world. On the other side, if you are still a Star Trek junkie, parts of the movie pull from the original Star Trek series. It’s a real Dr. Spock versus Captain Kirk moment.
Star Trek Beyond is direct by Justin Lin who directed several of the Fast and the Furious movies. Yes, there are several chase scenes that echo some of the action in those movies. Sometimes you feel like Vin Diesel is going to show up in a Camero. Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) injects the script with his natural love for all this science fiction. His inner geek really shines in several of the scenes.
Of course, the usual Star Trek cast is back. Zachary Quinto, as the ever impassive and logical Vulcan, brings his A-game when channeling Leonard Nimoy as Dr. Spock. But it’s the relationship between Dr. Spock and Dr. “Bones” McCoy (Karl Urban) as they are stranded together on the alien planet where we get to see some great dialog and humor. Their opposing viewpoints about life is the crux of the theme of the movie: just how valuable are our friends in life? Even the villain Krall (Idris Elba) provides a darker version of this theme as he seeks revenge against the Federation.
After you see Star Trek Beyond, you’ll enjoy how it becomes its own stand-alone Star Trek film. Maybe you will like, maybe you won’t. But we hope to have given some insight into you spending your money on the movie this weekend.
