St. Lukes – Short Movie Review

St Lukes

What’s it All About

Dr. Pratt enjoys the comradery of her colleagues, and the ability she has to help people in her hospital, but just can’t get rid of the nagging desire she has to retire, to pursue her aspirations of traveling throughout Asia. Through a series of patient interactions, she realizes that she is needed, not just for her medical skills, but for her bedside manner that many of her clients find comforting.

St Lukes

My Opinion

I found Dr. Pratt to be very relatable, as we all have day-dreamed about leaving our careers to pursue the wild blue yonder. Having family members in the medical field, I can attest this struggle is real. Dr. Pratt’s internal struggle between pursuing her desires and her practical self presents a relatable quality which carries her character beyond being a nose-to-the-grindstone doctor to a warmer, empathetic version of herself that draws her patients in to feel cared for. It’s a simple story, with a subtle nod to the importance of keeping a human touch in patient care.

The Verdict

St. Lukes was a pleasant watch and reinforces the personal sacrifices these unspoken heroes make on a daily basis for our care and comfort.
