RUSTIC ORACLE is based on Sonia Bonspille Boileau’s teenage experience growing up in the Kanehsatake settlement, comes a gripping drama about an often overlooked human rights crisis, Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.
RUSTIC ORACLE tells the story of Heather, a missing teenage girl (McKenzie Kahnekaroroks Deer) told through the eyes of her younger sister Ivy (Lake Kahentawaks Delisle). The film follows the heartbreaking journey of Ivy and her mother (Carmen Moore) as they search for their lost loved one.
While the story is a work of fiction, it is a poignant and truthful look at a tragically real crisis plaguing indigenous communities. The film was not only written, directed and produced by a team of indigenous filmmakers, but the cast is composed of mainly indigenous women, with extras coming from Kahnawake and Kanesatake. This film was shot on unceded Kanien’kehá:ka territory.
