Recipiphany – Short Drama Review
What’s it All About
Elisabeth is in remission, having beat cancer with healthy foods. She begins a new business venture, with the knowledge she gained from her own experience. Her mission statement is a simple one, but one with profound effects: “Save lives with good food and gainful employment!” Not only does she help people overcome cancer, but she employs people experiencing homelessness.
Elisabeth faces the hard reality that her business is not profitable. Nearly ready to give up, she turns to God for help, and is spurred on by the revelation that one of her homeless benefactors had a life-altering, positive twist of fate as a direct result of her good food.
My Opinion
I’m a diehard fan of movies that are based on true stories. Nothing can teach us more about our own plight, aside from the school of hard knocks, than the truth of what others have experienced and triumphed over.
The irony communicated in this film was that while we sometimes ruminate and obsess over that which is insignificant in the greater scheme of things (food past its expiration in this case), that same seemingly insignificant factor can turned, and be used in a way in which we hadn’t expected for the good. Perhaps it’s because despite ourselves, our hearts are often in the right place, and our intents are set into motion to accomplish things greater than we ourselves had imagined.
I looked to the dictionary to determine whether recipiphany (the title of this film) was a word that I was simply was unfamiliar with. Apparently, it’s a play on the word “epiphany”. Elisabeth was caught up in the concern of not becoming homeless herself, and not being able to earn enough through her business venture to pay for her daughter’s college. She was eventually the recipient of not only an epiphany, but is also today a nationally sought-after Wellness Business Consultant and Anti-Inflammatory Lifestyle consultant who is still in remission.
Verdict
The old adage, “’Tis better to give than receive” holds true here, but it goes beyond that. This was a heart-warming look at how it is possible to align virtuous desires with our own personal success.
