The Lego Batman Movie Summary & Review
In 2014, Warner Bros. Pictures released The Lego Movie, an animated movie based on the Lego toy sets. It instantly became one of my favorite animated movies of all-time. It was hilarious, original, and beautifully animated. I have been waiting so long for a sequel, and after two years of hearing nothing but delay after delay, we have The Lego Batman Movie. It may not be a full-on sequel, but it features Batman, who was one of the best parts of the first movie.
The Lego Batman Movie takes place in the same world as The Lego Movie, this time focusing on Master Builder Batman (Will Arnett). In his own little section of the Lego World, he protects the citizens of Gotham City from The Joker (Zach Galifianakis). When The Joker comes up with a new plan to destroy the city, Batman realizes that he can’t defeat him alone. He needs the help of his trusty butler Alfred (Ralph Fiennes), his son Robin (Michael Cera), and new police commissioner Barbara Gordon (Rosario Dawson) to put a stop to Joker’s reign of terror and discover what he has been missing in his life: friends.
While this movie didn’t beat The Lego Movie, it was very close. This movie was fantastic. It was hilarious with its fourth wall breaking humor. The voice actors were fantastic, especially Arnett. He really knows how to play a comedic Batman. I also really enjoyed the story. They knew how to bring a comedic take on superhero movies. Pretty much everything about this movie was great. There wasn’t anything that I didn’t like about it.
Just like the first Lego film, the thing that I loved most about this movie was the animation. The team at Warner Bros. really know how to animate Lego characters. It’s also awesome that everything in the world is a kind of Lego piece. Every cloud, puff of smoke, and explosion is made of Lego pieces. I was a little sad that the water in this movie wasn’t made of Legos, but other than that, it was perfectly animated.
The Lego Batman Movie was the perfect follow-up to The Lego Movie. I’m still sad I have to wait another two years for the real sequel, but I am so happy that we are getting two spin-off movies this year. I can’t wait for The Lego Ninjago Movie, and see if it can be better than this film. However, with how good this film was, it’s going to be a stiff competition.
