The LEGO Batman Movie, is fantastic! For me, a near perfect experience at the movie theater. It’s funny, charming, exciting and even moving. It blasts along at a blistering pace, yet somehow manages to bullseye every emotional mark it targets. I laughed out loud, genuinely cared about the characters, and was entertained by the action. I loved how (like The LEGO Movie) it incorporated the spirit of play, yet still had time to tell a story about family.
LEGO’s Batman broods with the best renditions of the character, but I also loved how elements from the classic 60’s TV show were not forgotten either. The references to the character’s past were numerous and always entertaining. This film is honestly like Galaxy Quest, but for superhero movies. A spoof that’s out to have fun, but not at the expense of the characters or its history. It honors what came before, has fun with the premise, but always remains respectful while assembling a dizzying palette of colored bricks for our entertainment.
If you loved The LEGO Movie, then I think you’re going to love this too. Pay attention to the details as a lot gets thrown on the screen.
Best Moment: << mild spoiler >>
It’s so hard to pick a favorite. For now, I’ll say Batman’s first appearance when he takes on the Joker and all of Gotham’s notable villains (and Condiment Man?) – while laying down his “dope” new song!
