Keanu Review
Between this and Deadpool, 2016 is turning out to be the year putting George Michael in your action comedy equals a good movie. (Believe me it’ll make more sense after you’ve seen the movie.)
Anyway; Keanu is pretty great! I wouldn’t say this is something on the level of Deadpool or Hail Caesar in the realm of comedies I’ve seen this year, but it’s a pretty dang funny little movie that doesn’t wear out it’s welcome and made me laugh quite a lot.
I’m not particularly the biggest fan of Key and Peel but I’m fairly familiar with their work and I can safely say if they got something this good on their first try, I’m definitely interested in seeing if they’ve got anything else up their sleeve movie-wise.
It’s pretty surface level thematically, a lot of the plot elements are pretty rough and require some suspension of disbelief, the movie utilizes close-ups more then usual which is a little distracting, and I wouldn’t say every joke lands or anything. But most of them do and are pretty hysterical.
Believe me, there’s a reason I brought up George Michael, they get absolutely everything they can out of that joke and it’s great. Key and Peel themselves also turn out to be pretty great actors. They both make for compelling leads and their characters go through full and complete arcs that are satisfying to watch. And if nothing else you can at least completely get behind everyone’s character motivations because the kitten in question, Keanu, is ADORABLE. They don’t overuse him and you totally understand why most of the characters in the movie suddenly just decide that he’s the most important thing in their respective worlds.
So yeah, not too much to say about Keanu because I really don’t wanna spoil where most of these jokes go. Probably not one of the best movies I’ll end up seeing this year, but I had fun with it and if this sounds like your kind of thing, go for it.
