Jason Bourne – Movie Review
Jason Bourne is back, and Matt Damon is Jason Bourne, as he was 9 years ago. 9 years older obviously, but also living off the grid, in Greece. Emotionless and disjointed from the world after the outing of Blackbriar and acknowledging his past. He is seemingly living with no purpose.
Until Niki (Julia Stiles), who has taken a new role against the CIA, she’s become sort of a Snowden figure.
She uncovers new information on past programs, including Blackbriar and Treadstone. In a piece of lazy screenwriting it is told that Jason Bourne’s dad was the one that started Treadstone. Makes no sense right? And it comes off as increasingly desperate to just have another Bourne film.
You know what else is desperate? Naming a Bourne film, Jason Bourne. They’re really relying on that name to draw in an audience, because the script has nothing to offer, and I was one of those people who was suckered in by the name, and the fact that I’m a fan of the film series.
But with the obvious product being shown to us, there’s still a lot to like in the film. The commentary against the government’s use of predictive programming and over reliance on technology is still there, it’s still relevant and it’s still fun and eye opening. Seriously people, the world is moving into scarier times.
The CIA is still up to their douchey tricks, by adding Alicia Vikander and Tommy Lee Jones. Vikander is far too young, when it comes to acting experience and age, so she’s been given a physical handicap who struggles to bring any gravitas or seriousness to the role, she’s a kid in a room full of serious people.
Tommy Lee Jones fits the bill of a CIA director rather perfectly and is given some incredible dialogue to work with as well, which Jones with his charm and voice pattern takes to another level. Very Donald Trump like speech pattern.
