An Interview With Actress and Filmmaker Linnea Sage
Linnea Sage, known for her voice work in Marvel’s Avengers Academy game (she voices Nebula and Agent 13), is back with a brand new series, Linnea & Lacey: Millennial Witches! A sneak peek has hit the web for Halloween!
Hi Linnea, it is great to meet you.
You do a little bit of everything- but I believe your day job is primarily working on video games and commercials as a voice-over artist. How did you get involved in that?
I’ve been acting and training my entire life, which gave a great base for getting into voice-over about six years ago. I started by working on a zombie themed radio show in Boston that really taught me the ropes of voice-over and it started to snowball from there. Now I have a great team of agents working with me and continuing to help me grow!
I think that is extremely important, having a great team around you!
Was The Avengers game a major score for you?
Absolutely. They were so great to work with. After I recorded Nebula they told me I was the best voice the team has ever heard in the studio! So they then asked me to voice Sharon Carter, and of course I couldn’t turn down that opportunity! I hope to work with them again, for sure!
Do the directors dictate the ‘voice’ you’ll use for these projects or do you simply come up with one that works?
It totally depends. Usually for an audition you prepare what you think they’re looking for or what you feel best doing. Sometimes they love it and you get to bring this character in a direction they weren’t even considering! Other times they have something very specific in mind and guide you in a new direction.
That’s a very interesting process.
What’s ‘Millennial Witches’?
An unlikely friendship between a good witch and a bad witch. Linnea and Lacey are best friends, in a world full of mortals who couldn’t care less about their magical abilities.
It sounds like it has a lot of promise.
Lacey and I have been close for a long time now, and we regularly include each other in our personal passion projects. I wanted to write a character study for both of us that was our most extreme selves. ‘Linnea the Teenage Witch’ is a character I wanted to live in for a while. I knew no one else could capture her the way I wanted, so I wrote her for myself and produced this film!
You wrote the project. Is it the first short you’ve written?
It’s not the first thing I’ve written but it is the first thing I’ve produced. A couple of years ago I wrote the pilot to another web-series and it actually was a finalist in the New York Screenwriters Competition!
Wow! That is great, especially for you first short – Congratulations for that!
What films or series inspired it?
Of course Sabrina the Teenage Witch, but also shows like The Nanny and Girls and New Girl. Anything about strong female friendships and silly boys.
What are your plans for it? Do you feel it’ll go beyond a short?
