Ice Age: Collision Course Summary & Review
I have been a fan of Blue Sky Studio’s Ice Age franchise my entire life. The second film (Ice Age: The Meltdown) is one of the first films that I watched on a daily basis, and I still remember the endless amounts of excitement that filled me when I saw the first teaser trailer for the third film (Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs). I even enjoyed the fourth entry (Ice Age: Continental Drift), despite the fact that it lacked some of the charm from the earlier films. My point is, when I heard the official announcement that there would be a fifth film, I was fully on board. Now, Ice Age: Collision Course is here. This entry follows all our favorite characters, Manny, Sid, Diego, Ellie, Crash, Eddie, Peaches, and others as they team up with their crazy, old friend Buck (from Dawn of the Dinosaurs) to stop a giant meteor from colliding with Earth and destroying all life. So, how does this chapter fit into the series?
What I liked about it:
– The animation was beautiful. Everything looked nice and realistic, as well as goofy and cartoony.
– The humor was great. I laughed a lot throughout the movie, especially the Scrat subplot.
– Their reason for the meteor’s attraction to Earth was something I had never seen before, and kind of clever.
– I enjoyed Sid’s love interest, Brooke. She was the perfect mix of sane and crazy, making her the perfect girl for Sid.
– I loved that they brought back Buck from the third film. He brought a nice level of goofiness to the story. He wasn’t as good as in the third film, but I still enjoyed him.
– I enjoyed Scrat’s adventure through space. He’s my favorite character, and I always enjoy watching him fail to hang on to his precious acorn.
What I didn’t like about it:
– Some of the jokes didn’t work.
– The villains of the story weren’t really all that well developed.
– It still lacked some of the charm of the early movies.
Conclusion:
Ice Age: Collision Course was a very enjoyable entry to the series. While it was still a fun time at the movies, I still think that, like Continental Drift, it lacked some of the charm that made the first three movies so great. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed it and looking forward to seeing if the series continues. No matter how bad it gets, I’m sticking with this franchise till the very end.
