GREG’S GUARDIAN ANGEL (2013)

We all wish that we had a little help every now and again. Someone to talk to, confide in, share secrets. When we’re struck with good fortune, some call it ”a little bit of luck”, while others say that they had ”an angel on their shoulder”.

Then there’s Greg, a normal, every day guy who goes about his business, living his life and working at the amusingly called Spatco (What could they possibly do?), but very soon, average Greg finds that he not only has an angel on his shoulder, but an angel in his home, in his office and in every aspect of his life. This angel is all about ensuring the Greg makes the right choices, as the right choices set the tone for his future. So, this angel follows him to the kitchen…and bathroom, offers dating advice and helps him advance his career with the higher ups at Spatco.

”Helping” may not be the right word. In fact, as the very funny comedy short Greg’s Guardian Angel shows, this angel is no Mr. Jordan.

Penned by Dan Conrad of All Things Random, in collaboration with Phalanx Film & Video’s Dan Kowalski, who serves as director, Greg’s Guardian Angel is one of the most enjoyable and hysterically funny shorts that I’ve seen in a long while; like a joke you hear first thing in the morning, yet it keeps a smile on your face all day long.

The film strives on all levels, thanks to a fun concept, a solid pace and excellent comic performances, epsecially from leads Greg Vorob, as Greg, and Elmer J. Santos, as the Angel, whose voice is a cross between Maurice LaMarche and Harry Kallas, the former announcer for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Director Dan Kowalski keeps things colorful and lively throughout, along with Sam Elliott’s top notch cinematography which is excellent throughout.

Vorob and Santos are clearly having a great time with their roles and the same must be said of the supporting cast, which includes Timothy J. Cox and Jack Moran, both deliciously broad as Greg’s bosses at Spatco.

Greg’s Guardian Angel is tops in my book!
