In Australia, two men work to provide the last hope of relief – and in some cases cure – for thousands suffering chronic and terminal illnesses. They provide black market medicinal cannabis for people who have nowhere else to turn.
The plant is now widely considered to have lifesaving potential, yet swift and compassionate access is still not an option for many people in need. Their job is to help sick and dying Australians, and by caring for these people, they are forced to risk everything.
Green Light explores the exceptional lengths two mavericks are willing to go, to improve – and in some cases, save – the lives of those with nowhere else to turn. They risk their freedom by supplying black market medicinal cannabis to thousands suffering from chronic and terminal illnesses.
GREEN LIGHT is an independently produced Australian documentary film by debut feature film director Ned Donohoe. The film is produced by Exile Entertainment, a Melbourne based production/ distribution company, in association with 25 Laps & Liquid Noise.
GREEN LIGHT was shot on location in Sydney and the Northern Rivers (New South Wales) and Perth (Western Australia), over 20 days. The film was financed independently through a combination of private investment and the Producer Offset.
The debate around the legalisation of medicinal cannabis is set to take center stage in Australia in 2019. Over 90% of Australians believing the use of marijuana for medicinal purposes should be made legal, yet the Government is lagging behind.Films that polarise the audience, either through style or ideology, typically create the stage for a wider public debate. It is our hope that the film will act as a microphone to the stories of each of the people interviewed and be a catalyst for a more focused and action-driven public debate on the issue of access to medicinal cannabis oil.
GREEN LIGHT sits between comparable titles such as THAT SUGAR FILM and CHASING ASYLUM. It will have the human element and character focus of the former, with the social and political relevance of the latter.
