Filmmaker Julian Hamman Tells us About His Upcoming Short – Coda
We were lucky to get the chance to grab a quick chat with indie filmmaker Julian Hamman about his upcoming short film – Coda.
Hi Julian, can you tell us what your short film is about?
My film tackles issues of substance abuse and suburban cycles that encase impressionable young people.
That is pretty powerful stuff. What made you want to make a film about this?
During my time at high school, I saw some close friends spiral into drug use. I live in an insular part of Sydney where a lack of opportunities can sometimes position young people into having an undefined vision of their future, or in this case, develop a dangerous addiction.
That’s not good. It is great that you are using your film to highlight this issue. Did you use your experiences to shape the film?
Yes. The film was inspired by these events. I intended to capture the emptiness and disappointment that arises from this way of life.
Well We certainly think you have done that! The film looks great so I am sure it will do very well.
