Feature Film Funeral Day Teams up With the Testicular Cancer Society
Indie Feature film, Funeral Day, Teams up With the Testicular Cancer Society and will have its World Premiere at the Austin Revolution Film Festival
Funeral Day, a darkly funny feature film that explores mortality, getting unstuck and taking responsibility for one’s life, will have its world premiere in Austin, Texas at the Austin Revolution Film Festival on September 24th at 2pm at the DoubleTree Austin – Ambassador Global Group Theatre. Funeral Day is up for 5 awards including Best Comedy Feature, Best Director, Best Actor & Best Screenplay.
The film takes viewers on a day-in-the-life journey of a neurotic young man, Scott, who wakes up in a panic on the morning of his friend’s funeral thinking he found a lump on his testicle and decides at that moment to skip the funeral in order to start living his own life to the fullest.
While the film was in post-production, director Jon Weinberg, sent out a Tweet that caught the attention of Testicular Cancer Society founder, Mike Craycraft.
“I immediately had to reach out to Jon and see how the Testicular Cancer Society could get involved in helping bring the film to life,” says Craycraft. “The film’s storyline was so close to my own that it really hit home.”
After feeling a lump, the main character in Funeral Day refuses to go to a doctor which is not uncommon in men explained Craycraft, a testicular cancer survivor who waited seven months after feeling his lump before having it checked. “For seven months I ended up living like I was dying. I never told anyone what was going on,” says Craycraft. “This film is going to be an invaluable tool in helping us not just raise awareness about testicular cancer but to help change how guys address their health issues.”
Both the society and the producers of the film hope that by engaging in co-promotion, more men (and the women in their lives) will become aware of testicular cancer and be proactive in the diagnosis and care process.
“We are extremely happy to be working with the Testicular Cancer Society to help raise awareness and educate. We are also very excited that we are releasing Funeral Day out into the world and that it will have its premiere at the Austin Revolution Film Festival,” says Jon. “It’s a festival that champions independent filmmakers and independent cinema in a great city that embraces creativity. We can’t wait to be there!”
