Death of an Umbrella Salesman Makes Waves in Australia

Writer, director and producer, Steve Herold has been working in film and television since graduating from the film program at New York’s School of Visual Arts. His work has included Killing Fields and Celebrity Wife Swap
and his films have screened at over 75 film festivals worldwide winning numerous awards.
Steve and his short film ‘Death of an Umbrella Salesman’ has had a fantastic festival run which was highlighted by a ‘Best Screenplay’ award in Sydney, Australia at the Sydney Indie Film Festival.
On making the film Steve told us, “The idea for the film came from finding ten umbrellas stashed away in a friend’s trunk. It was a funny visual and instantly made me think of a door-to-door salesman but even worse if what you were selling was umbrellas.”
We asked Steve how he came about shooting in Baton Rouge? He let us in on his decision… “I was working for several months on a TV show in Baton Rouge and decided it’d be fun to shoot the film there. This would be the fist time I’d strayed from shooting in my usual stomping grounds of Ashbury Park, NJ. Luckily, I had a great crew from the show to help and my friend Jessica was working, not far away, on the TV show ‘Duck Dynasty’ and agreed to be my director of Photography.”
The short stars Kevin Kolack and Sabrina Gennarino. Kevin is perhaps best known for his role in the film ‘Blue Ruin’ and I am sure you will recognise Sabrina from the feature films ‘Jack Reacher: Never Look Back’ or ‘Left Behind’, or on hit TV Shows ‘The Walking Dead’ and the TNT show ‘Claws. We asked Steve how he managed to get Sabrina in for the role of Betsy May Morgan in his short? “As luck would have it Sabrina Gennarino who I had cast many times before, was living in New Orleans and drove up to be part of the fun.”
