Big Trouble in Little China Trailer
Released in 1986 Big Trouble in Little China blurred fantasy with reality as Jack Burton ventured into the underworld below San Francisco Chinatown. Originally a western set in the 1880’s W.D. Richter was hired to re-write and modernise the script written by Gary Goldman and David Z. Weinstein. John Carpenter was brought on board to direct fulfilling his ambition of making a martial arts feature.
Unfortunately for Carpenter the film was a failure at the Box Office grossing $11.1 million in North America and a disillusioned Carpenter returned to independent film-making. However the film has gained a big fan-base over the years and is now considered a cult classic.
Big Trouble in Little China follows trucker Jack Burton who helps his friend Wang Chi when his fiancee is kidnapped because of her green eyes by Lo Pan, a mysterious sorcerer who requires the girl to release him from a curse. The duo and their friends must travel through the mysterious underworld of Chinatown battling ancient magic and fantastical creatures in order to get her back.
