The Austin Revolution Film Festival prepares for the 5th Annual Event
The team behind the Austin Revolution Film Festival prepares for their 5th year in celebrating independent film. Created by University of Texas alums James Christopher, Nathan Bybee, Jessica Bybee and Chris Copple, the festival strives to bring truly independent movies to the Texas capital. Austin Revolution Film Festival has exploded in popularity with independents as they put together an excellent program with a focus on networking events. Currently, the festival ranks #4 of over 4,000 on film festival aggregator Film Freeway, based on filmmaker reviews.
This season, films will screen at some of Austin’s best venues, including the Alamo Drafthouse and the Blue Starlite Mini Urban Drive-in. These venues have welcomed the festival and its program with open arms. Between these venues and the main festival location at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel – University Area, sold out screenings are expected throughout the five days.
This year, over 1,200 films were submitted to the festival. From those 1,200, over 130 features, shorts, web series and music videos were selected. Those films represent a vast array of regions and filmmakers. The competition is divided amongst teams from Texas, the United States and a strong international representation. As per the mission of the festival, the festival will continue to focus on the impact of Women in Independent Film. In addition, this year, the festival will shine a special light on films by Veterans, LGBTQ films and other specialized groups.
Austin has long been known as a center for the independent film world. The Austin Revolution Film Festival brings a special element to that community by focusing on films that might not be seen in town due to budget or lack of studio status.
