“Attack of the Cyber Octopuses” is Coming and They Need YOUR Help!
Sometimes projects come along that you simply can’t ignore!
While browsing through my News Feed on Facebook, a link to this movie appeared on my screen. The title Attack of the Cyber Octopuses meant that this was something I was unable to ignore!
“Attack of the Cyber Octopuses” is a retro-futuristic cyberpunk short film from the mind of Nicola Piovesan, an award winning filmmaker and producer. Clearly taking inspiration from some of the greatest sci-fi movies the eighties had to offer, and also William Gibson’s cyberpunk landmark Neuromancer, this movie looks to celebrate and embrace the retro style and feel of what made the eighties such an awesome decade for film!
What sets this short film project apart is the fact that it’s being made with the same love and flair as those retro movies we all love. The movie will be created using junk, old toys and some 3D printed parts to create weapons, vehicles, helmets, the cyber octopuses and even a miniature of the city. Trying to follow methods used in those classic films and only relying on a PC for editing, compositing and creating the virtual world of cyberspace. I have a feeling the love and dedication being put into the project will be reflected in the final product.
Nicola has stated “2017 is an essential year for the return on big screen of the cyberpunk genre, which sees – among others – Blade Runner 2, Ghost in the Shell, and Mute. “Attack of the Cyber Octopuses” is a tribute towards certain way of doing film that has disappeared in recent years with the arrival of CGI. A “pulp” film, as Quentin Tarantino could make it, without being “trashy” or “cheesy”, but also without taking things too seriously. A short film to make people think, in a visually attractive way, about our daily life and how addicted we are to the internet.”

The Story
The story takes place in Neo-Berlin, 2079. A dark, rain-soaked city held by mega corporations where the only enjoyment in life is connecting to cyberspace and taking “Binary Trip” a cyber drug that fries your neurons but promises a feeling better than a hundred orgasms at once. In this setting, a team of crack cyberspace detectives are investigating a new menace: an army of cyber octopuses that are terrorizing the city.
