How To Watch The Star War Series

“Star Wars VIII: The Last Jedi” opened on December 15th, 2017. For us fans, there was a special showing of this movie and the last movie that came out – “Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens” on Thursday, December 14th. As I am impatiently awaiting for the latest movie to come, I was thinking about the previous movies that have come out and I have always wanted to know what the correct order to see the movies was. There are three different ways that I know of.

First Way

One way is the chronological sequence of the movies (eg: Star Wars I, Star Wars II, etc). This is for the one who claims to be a Star Wars fan (sorry for the harsh words) or the regular movie viewer who HAVE to see it in that sequence.

Second Way

Another one I heard recently was on the TV Show “The Big Bang Theory” (TBBT). According to the story, the characters found this way online. It seems that you can watch Episodes I – III as a flashback. This means that you watch Episode IV & V, then watch Episodes I – III and finally Episode VI. This way, you still get the “shock” in Episode V where Darth Vader tells Luke that he was Luke’s father. Then go to Episodes I – III to see if what Vader said was true or “fake news” and then finally end with Episode VI. One of the characters took this method a step further and suggested that Episode I should be skipped so as to streamline the above viewing experience and make it more enjoyable.

Third Way

Now the above idea is a good one, and it would make it entertaining. But I think it can be made better. Now remember, since the airing of the above TBBT episode several other Star Wars movies have come out/are coming out. In 2016, “Star Wars: Rouge One” had come out. This story line take place immediately before Episode IV. So this should be watched first. Then you watch Episodes IV and V.

Now this is where things will change a bit. You start watching Episode VI to the point of when Obi-Wan Kenobi tells Luke that Vader is/was his father. As Kenobi sits down on the log with Luke to tell the story, you stop the movie here. This is what you do next. “Weird Al” Yankovic had written a song based on Episode I called “The Saga Begins” . The song is a spoof of the classic “American Pie” by Don McLean. I have seen the video and heard the song many times and it explains Episode I in five and a half minutes over watching the movie (which is over two hours long). Then you can watch Episodes II and III. And you finally finish Episode VI. This way, Episodes II & III can become a true flashback to the story and maybe at some power to the story in Episode VI. Plus you get to enjoy a classic. 🙂

To prove my point, I’m watching the series now. I have just finished “Rogue One” and started Episode IV. I’ll be posting an update to tell you of the success or failure of my updated method.

Anyway…enjoy the movies and “May The Force Be With You”.
