The Matrix
In this weeks Movie Club we are going to look at The Matrix, the science fiction movie written and directed by the Wachowski brothers, Larry and Andy.
This movie kick started the Matrix franchise and popularized the use of the 'Bullet Time' visual effect. The movie was followed by two sequels, video games, comic books and animated shorts.
The Marix is set in the future where the world has been overrun by machines, following the birth of A.I. and the last humans that remain live deep below the surface of the Earth. An exact date in which the film is set is unknown, but is thought to be around 2199. Humans are grown by the machines for power, and spend their entire lives plugged into a simulated reality known as the Matrix.
Computer hacker Neo, is searching for a man known as Morpheus, and is looking for the answer to the question 'what is the Matrix'. Neo is soon dragged into the war against the machines and learns the truch about the Matrix. What he struggles to come to terms with is the fact that he is 'the one' that Morpheus has been searching for and the ultimate weapon in the war against the machines.
The Matrix was praised on its release and is widely regarded as one of the greatest science fiction movies of all time. It also set a new standard for fight scenes and choreography.
