Media Fire Mid-year Awards Ceremony

Avengers Age of Ultron movie review

Holy crap, can you believe we’re almost halfway through the year? Yep, I’d say it’s been a pretty good year so far! 2015’s been living up to expectations so far, and that’s pretty surprising. So let’s do a mid year awards ceremony even though I’ve only seen………. 8 movies so far this year! (wow I could’ve sworn I’d seen more.) Whatever, I haven’t done a blog in a while, let’s do this!

Most jaw dropping movie
Avengers: Age of Ultron

Mad Max: Fury Road was also a viable contestant, but ultimately the comic junky in me won out. Weather it was just the sheer spectacle of the Hulk-buster fight, witnessing Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver’s powers in action, or Vision surprise lifting Thor’s hammer, Age of Ultron was the movie that had me awestruck the most. Congrats Age of Ultron for making me and everyone else see Hawkeye in a completely new light.

Most unintentionally hilarious non-comedy
Jupiter Ascending

I once heard someone say that Jupiter Ascending is what happens if you give a 176 million dollar budget to Tina Belcher from Bob’s Burgers, and it’s always stuck with me as probably the most accurate criticism of the movie. The more I think about Jupiter Ascending, the more it starts to resemble somebody’s fan fiction than an actual movie. It just seems so completely innocent of how unbelievably half-baked and poorly executed it is that I honestly can’t end up hating it. It’s just to much fun laughing at it. Call this one my new favorite guilty pleasure everybody.

Movie that got worse the more I thought about it
The Divergent Series: Insurgent

I don’t hate the movie Insurgent itself. To paraphrase my own review, it’s the sort of movie that’s so inoffensive and tame it’s instantly destined for the 5$ movie bin at Walmart. No, I hate what the movie Insurgent represents. This creeping cancer of badly written YA dystopia’s attempting to be the next big thing, not realizing that to effectively DO that you need to make sure your source material can stand on its own first. Which sadly Insurgent can’t really do. At all. I’m willing to give Scorch Trials a shot though! I will say it looks promising!

Best Movie Ending
Jurassic World

I can’t believe I didn’t even mention the ending of Jurassic World in my original review. Can we all just agree this might just be the greatest thing to EVER be put onscreen? Please? I really don’t think I’m overselling it here! I can’t believe it took the Jurassic Park series 4 movies to give us a proper Dinosaur on Dinosaur slugfest, and this movie’s arguably given us the best one of those ever! I don’t think I’m anywhere near as high on this movie as some other people are, but the ending of this movie is easily worth the price of admission. (and judging how much money this movie’s made, you agree with me)

So halfway through the year already, looking forward to the rest of it. Which movie’s have been the most memorable to you so far this year? Let me know in the comments, and I’ll see you next time.
