Logan Lucky is another solid film from director, Steven Soderbergh. It’s not likely to go down in history as one of the great heist movies, but there’s also very little wrong here either. It’s got a good cast turning in great performances, especially Daniel Craig and Farrah Mackenzie, and the script is laced with fun dialogue. The near two-hour runtime is barely felt as everything seen and heard is entertaining and justifies the price of a movie ticket.
Where I think it loses its way (a little mind you), is due to the overly intricate heist plot. It’s fun to see it played out, and there are many clever details in the plan. There’s just a few too many coincidences, and too many impossible to predict elements put in place throughout the story. And while some of the ‘shit happens’ moments are fun, as shown, you might start to question the credibility of a plan that involves so many people being in the right place at the right time. And so many extraneous elements reacting in just the right way in order for the plot to move forward.
Go for the performances and lively dialogue, and try not to pick apart the heist details.
Best Moment: << spoilers >>
Part of the epic heist plan involves the cooperation of inmates at a local jail. The inmates barricade themselves inside the mess hall, and demand the prison library get the latest R. R. Martin ‘Thrones’ books. The dialogue back and forth about how the TV show and books have gone their separate ways, is hilarious!
