On August 15, Lumiere Lab and Random Media present a hilarious look at the world of online dating – presenting the DVD, digital and video-on-demand (VOD) debut of THE LONELY ITALIAN. A film in the irreverent vein of BORAT, BRUNO and BAD GRANDPA, it’s a hybrid documentary/narrative comedy about one man’s quest to find love. Unique, funny and extremely timely, THE LONELY ITALIAN follows Italian radio and TV star Domenico Nesci (MTV’s ‘That’s Amore’ and ‘A Shot at Love with Tila Tequila’), who is frustrated with his inability to meet American women in the traditional way of his own culture. When Dominico joins every dating website imaginable (including “Farmer’s Only,” “JDate,” “Black Singles,” and “Date Me Date My Pet”) hoping to find the love of his life, anything can happen!
Directed by veteran comedy writer/producer Lee Farber (The Soup, The Wayne Brady Show) THE LONELY ITALIAN features real dates, with a scripted story providing the framework. The film’s documentary portion was self=financed, while the scripted portion is the product of an aggressive Kickstarter campaign.

When we think of Italian men, we think of suave, debonair lovers with an endless slew of willing ladies at their beck and call. Domenico Nesci is not one of those Italian men. Rather, he is a foreigner with a very common problem: he just can’t connect with members of the opposite sex. Why? Because everywhere he goes, women are buried in their smart-phones, their tablets, their laptops, looking down instead of looking around, hoping that technology will bring them closer to their soulmate in this new era of interconnectivity. So Domenico decides not only to join the online masses, but to document his journey as he joins every dating site he can, from mainstream to fringe, casting an ever-widening net in the hopes he can find the love of his life.
